The Scholarly Communications Librarian will coordinate the NPMLs' efforts related to copyright, open educational resources, and scholarly works in the library's institutional repository. The librarian will serve on library and faculty committees and workgroups. The Scholarly Communication Librarian will work closely with faculty, researchers, students, staff, and librarians to assist in scholarly communication endeavors initiated by the Library and to that end, will develop educational materials and instructional sessions and programs. The Scholarly Communication librarian will also be part of the library's Research & Instruction department as a subject liaison providing research and instruction to USFSP students and faculty in a yet to be undetermined department or program.
In coordination with library colleagues, develops and manages initiatives, educational programming and appropriate services for USFSP faculty, researchers, students, and staff on scholarly communication topics, including but not limited to open access, copyright, intellectual property rights, and open educational resources. Serves as the Libraries' main contact for scholarly communication questions and initiatives. Consults with and advises USFSP faculty on publishing agreements and retention of the right to deposit materials in the campus repository Provides periodic assessments of the campus environment with regard to scholarly communication issues and implements improvements. Coordinates the scholarly communication responsibilities of librarians in the NPML Librarian Liaison Program. Stays current with developments in copyright, open access, scholarly publishing, open educational resource initiatives, etc.
Collaborates and devises strategies for populating and promoting the use of the campus institutional repository. Acts as the lead contact for the creation and maintenance of faculty profiles in SelectedWorks and coordinates that efforts of liaison librarians in this area.
Works in close consultation and collaborates with the Special Collections Librarian and the Digital Collections team
Serves as a liaison to one or more academic departments, being responsible for outreach, instruction, research consultation, access to information, and collection development. Provides library instruction, including course-integrated instruction, workshops, and consultations. Develops and maintains LibGuides and other online self-directed learning materials for assigned departments and outreach areas. Provides research support including research appointments, on-call, email, phone, and chat reference; Works evenings and weekends as needed.
Collaborates with colleagues to provide excellent library service.
Participates in planning, assessment, and other library initiatives.
Other duties as assigned.
Develops an active research agenda. Publish peer-reviewed articles, present at conferences, and produce other forms of scholarship.
Serves on library and university committees. Serves the professional community.
A master's degree in Library Science or equivalent from an accredited institution.
3 years relevant experience, preferably in an academic library environment.
Commitment to support and contribute to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated knowledge of copyright and related issues as they support the creation and dissemination of scholarship, such as author's rights, open access, archiving rights, institutional repositories, and open educational resources, and knowledge of the associated legal and policy issues. Ability to effectively articulate complex concepts, such as copyright, fair use, and open access as they relate to the academic endeavor. Ability to work collegially with faculty, researchers, students, and staff in a group or individual setting. Willingness to lead and work effectively as part of a team. Demonstrated contribution to the profession with scholarly publications and/or presentations and through contributions to professional organizations.
A second master's degree.
Six years relevant experience and scholarly record that supports appointment at the level of associate librarian. Experience in preparing and delivering copyright instruction.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive and productive collaborations with faculty, researchers, students, and librarians.
Evidence of leadership, entrepreneurship, and initiative.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to adjust priorities, take initiative, set goals, manage projects and time wisely, and make quick and effective decisions.
