Discovering La Florida in the Oldest Diocesan Archive of America

  • The Diocesan Archive of St. Augustine holds some of the oldest records in the country, which date as far back as 1594.  While preserving these documents through digitization, two graduate students explored the lives of some of Florida’s earliest Europeans, Africans, and Christianized Indians.

  • William Harvard, Sr. introduced St. Petersburg to Modernist architecture in the early 1950s. Many of his buildings are still some of the most recognizable in the city, including his iconic Inverted Pyramid. Yet, he is all but forgotten. This talk will touch upon the historical and cultural context for his controversial design.
