Catherine Cardwell is the Dean of the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library. Her responsibilities include providing leadership for and fiscal oversight of the library, online learning, and instructional technology services. Prior to joining USF-SP in 2016, Catherine served as Director of Libraries at Ohio Wesleyan University. She was a member of the steering committee overseeing the Five Colleges of Ohio Andrew W. Mellon Grant—Digital Collections: from Projects to Pedagogy and Scholarship. She was elected to represent the Private and Independent College Directors on various OhioLINK committees. From 1998 to 2011, Catherine was a member of the library faculty at Bowling Green State University, where she was instruction coordinator, chair of the Department of Library Teaching and Learning, co-interim dean, and interim vice provost.
Her interests include integrating information literacy and digital scholarship into the curriculum, creating dynamic and contemporary user-centered teaching and learning spaces (both physical and online), and improving discovery and usability of library resources and services.
The Dean is responsible for general oversight of the library, its operations and services, monitoring the library’s budget and expenditures, developing and implementing a strategic vision for the library, setting guidelines, advocating and interacting with the Colleges and other units of the University, developing and strengthening partnerships on and off campus, and raising funds to supplement the operating budget. The Dean is assisted in fulfilling these responsibilities by the Library Leadership Team, consisting of all Library Faculty and Administrative and Professional Managers.
