Assistive Technologies Room and OneTouch Recording Booth

Services Overview
The library provides assistive technologies in a quiet study room setting for those with special visual needs.  The room also provides a miniature studio space for video recording.

Available in room POY 136, several technologies are available to assist users with accessing library materials. An mechanically adjustable worktable can accommodate a range of heights for easy wheelchair access.  A computer with dual large screen 19″ monitors has been equipped in the room, which can be used in tandem for screen magnification and text to speech function. Software offerings include JAWS, Dragon Speaking Naturally, Windows Magnifier, ZoomText, and Read & Write Gold. Large microphone, keyboard, and adjustable chairs also allow a range of uses for the room.  An ELMO magnifier can enlarge documents with lighting.

Also available in this space in Summer of 2017 is a one-touch recording studio, the new MyStudio Booth.  MyStudio Booth is a simple one button video recording setup that will capture a video of a person as well as a computer display such as a Powerpoint presentation, or web site. MyStudio can be used for practicing presentations for class, recording a class project, or conducting a mock job interview.   Recorded video and audio is saved onto a student supplied thumb drive, to can be edited elsewhere.  Easy to control switching of equipment allows the student to easily create video using a backdrop.

Students should work with Student Disability Services regarding training to use the equipment. Contact the Circulation Desk for access to room POY 136. Use of the room is normally on a first-come, first-served basis but Student Disability Services may reserve the room under special circumstances at the circulation desk.
