Research Assistance

Poynter Library provides a variety of library instruction opportunities which are designed to help library users become familiar with the resources and services available in Poynter Library:

One-on-One Appointments:

Having difficulty locating information for your assignment? Need to sharpen your research skills? Librarians can assist and instruct you in how to identify and locate the most useful resources for your research needs.  Fill out the Research Appointment form to schedule a one-on-one session with a librarian.

Online Learning Modules

These short lessons feature interactive practice questions that help students gain mastery of library research and the ethical use of information.  Learning module URLs can be added to all courses in Blackboard or Canvas to augment course instruction.  If you have any questions please contact: Kaya van Beynen (email: kayatown@usfsp.edu or call 727-873-4626)

A selective list of subject-specific print, electronic, and Internet sources that are available at Nelson Poynter Memorial Library. Links are also provided to various finding aids.

Classroom Instruction:

Faculty members who would like to arrange library instruction for a particular class may
fill out the research instruction form, by clicking on the following link.

Request Library Instruction

Sessions focus on the specific subject area requested by the faculty member and may also cover topics such as the online catalog, appropriate subject databases, other related information sources, evaluation of materials, plagiarism and citation styles. Instruction sessions may take place in the library’s instruction room (POY 218) or in the regular class meeting space if access to the Internet is available. Sessions may be scheduled during a normal class meeting period or at another time convenient for the students.
