The primary responsibility of the Instructional Media Department is to provide services that support the teaching and research efforts of the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. This includes the development and support of “state of the art” media resources, systems, networks, and equipment.

Instructional Media Services is dedicated to providing media support to the USF St. Petersburg community. IMS is a service-oriented department with responsibilities in the following categories:

  • Scheduled credit classroom activities (E&G supported) and/or administrative services directly related to instruction.
  • Scheduled classroom activities, grant or other non-E&G supported.
  • Administrative services not directly related to instruction.

To help support this mission, our professional staff provides Audio/Visual technologies in all on-site classrooms. Each classroom is equipped, at minimum, with an overhead data projector, computer, sound system and DVD/VCR. Instructors may arrange for other standard Audio/Visual equipment as needed through a written or ONLINE request.

Smart Classroom Orientation and Assistance:
Instructional Media Services offers orientation and assistance in all classrooms across campus. Personal one-on-one orientation sessions generally run about ten minutes and are held in your assigned classroom. Faculty members who will be using the technology in located in USFSP classrooms are encouraged to call IMS services at 3-4409 to schedule a short session. Sessions are held at the convenience of the faculty member and could be in any classroom at any time Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 9:30 PM and Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Call us to schedule your training session today!
All classrooms contain printed instructions, which are located on the instructor’s stations or mounted on an adjacent wall. You may also view or print the instructions from the IMS web site.
Visit IMS’s classroom equipment site for further information.

Equipment Orders and Cancellations:
Please call our office to place an order. We need 24-hour notice if you intend to use our equipment or services. Booking early will assure prompt delivery of your requested services. Last minute orders are difficult to fill. When you make an equipment order for the entire semester, we will deliver your request for every class. However, THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE FINALS WEEK. If you need to use equipment for your final exam, please make a separate reservation. And if you cancel your class, call us to cancel your equipment!

Reservations from Faculty Only:
We only accept requests for classroom use of technology from faculty members or department office staff. Students who need to reserve equipment for class delivery will be instructed to ask their professor to order the equipment from IMS for the needed date, time and location. This is for the benefit of faculty, who may not want to be surprised by a delivery of equipment for which they had not planned.

Equipment Loans:
Instructional Media Services priority is for faculty support. We do not loan equipment to students. We have a variety of equipment available: data/video projectors, digital still cameras, digital video cameras, portable sound systems, portable lecterns with sound systems, personal voice amplification systems, digital document cameras, digital audio recorders, webcams, USB microphones, blu-ray DVD players, CD/cassette players, screens and 35mm slide projectors. These items must be picked up at the office. Advance reservations are preferred.
Users must accept financial responsibility for the borrowed equipment. They must return it in good condition, or pay to repair or replace the equipment that was damaged, lost, or stolen while in their possession. Please take a moment and read the charge/no charge policy before submitting an online request form.
Equipment is loaned for University instructional purposes only, and is NOT FOR HOME USE OR PERSONAL GAIN.

Easy Laptop Connections:
Professors may easily connect their personal laptop computers to our projection equipment in most technology-equipped classrooms, through the installed Extron switcher. Please contact IMS for more information on this connection. Our staff would be glad to assist you in the proper procedures, which will not interfere with the use of the room’s computer.
Technical Troubles:
In case of classroom equipment malfunction, use the phone located in your classroom to contact IMS at 3-4409 as soon as possible. For computer related issues, contact Campus Computing at 3-4357
Video Conferencing:
Instructional Media Services offers video conferencing facilities in the Nelson Poynter Library. Take advantage of our convenient service for meetings, or conferences. This two-way communication connects via the Internet (IP). Call David Brodosi at 3-4126 for additional information.
