Berrie Watson

Head, Systems and Digital Technology

Through the support of progressively more sophisticated technologies Berrie has been fortunate to have developed a very rewarding career in support of higher education at USF St. Petersburg.

Formerly a student and staff member of FSU in Tallahassee, Berrie has been connected with libraries and technology in the state of Florida for over 15 years.  His career path has not been a series of moves away from one role to another- such as from desktop support to systems administration- but rather has been characterized as a series of additional computing administration layers, as to remain in contact with each role to a degree while adopting others. As an experienced Systems Administrator and Network Engineer, his role is to create and manage VMWare based virtualization environments including virtualized cluster server support, and Linux CentOS Web technologies(LAMP) and ASX web applications. Berrie also specializes in troubleshooting WAN and LAN issues and availability, as well as managing Cisco and Windows-based Firewall appliances, switches and LAN architectures.

Berrie’s primary focus is to continue to support and effectively utilize resources in a virtualized environment while providing excellent support to operations, helpdesk areas and end users. Also of critical importance is to expand the library’s role in maintaining and archiving digital content for our institution, and advancing the open access movement in general.

Having established a years-long has an open-door policy, Berrie is always available to discuss subjects of technology interest with students, staff and faculty.  Drop by the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library POY 215 with any questions or comments, or general technology discussion.
